It is very hard to imagine our everyday lives without constant communication with friends, family, and co-workers.  AIM  (a.k.a. AOL (America On Line) Instant Messenger) is a free, powerful communication software that makes our remote conversations more interesting, convenient and innovative.

AIM  evolved from a simple PC-to-PC instant messenger to a messenger with the ability to play games with users, share files and folders, start video conferences and other great functions. Today,  AIM , one of the most popular messengers, offers its users a number of important services with a friendly design and functionality.

With the help of  AIM  you can create a list of contacts – buddies, and put them into different groups such as friends, family, co-workers and others. You can group the contacts into new customized groups. There is also an offline group where buddies who are offline are put in.

If you had other messengers before starting to use  AIM , you can import your friends’ contacts to AIM without any problem. There is also the option to arranging the contacts in alphabetical order.  AIM  also provides its users with a friend-finding service. You can set to view the contacts as emails or nicknames.

Communication with the help of  AIM  is not limited only to text messages. You can call a friend, start a video conference using a web camera, send an email, and share different files (images, audio files, folders) via  AIM . If your friend sends you a message while you are offline, AIM will notify you by sending a message to your cell phone. The received messages can be forwarded to your cell phone if needed. If you are online and receive an email message, AIM notifies you by sending an instant message. AIM allows you to send greetings via instant messages as well. IM Logging can save all your online text conversations for future reviews of your communication history.

The interface of the program is easy to customize. AIM has got new buttons and a new layout. You can choose different color skins. To make chatting handy, you can stick to either pop-up windows or group the windows for chat into portfolio sections.

AIM allows you to set your status by choosing from the available options provided by the application, i.e. busy, away or other, or writing your own status message. The customized status messages can be chosen from the overall list in the future. When online, you even have the chance to become invisible to your buddies.

AIM  makes sure you will not miss messages. Even if you were offline when someone sent you a message, it is saved by the application for you. You will receive it as soon as you log into AIM. Additional graphical emoticons make instant messaging fun.

AIM  allows you to personalize your contacts by choosing a unique buddy icon and setting your buddy sound. The images and sounds provided by the messenger are grouped by themes and can satisfy any user. AOL videos and radio tunes are available as well. There is also a set of games you can play with your buddies online. Multi-player games are really thrilling.

AIM  allows you to set alerts for situations such as when your friends gets online, or is busy or away, etc. Another feature includes the ability to choose individual sound effects for different contacts. The application also notifies you when a person you are chatting with is typing a message. A very good additional AIM feature is the ability to integrate it with Facebook or Twitter through plug-ins.   

AIM  is concerned about the security of its users and, therefore, has three very useful features. The first feature is the ability to encrypt the messages. The second feature is a black/white list of people allowed/denied to contact you. The third feature is the ability to scan the received messages with the help of a virus checker.
